An Iranian man who was named “world’s dirtiest man” has died.

The state media claimed that Amou Haji did not bathe in soap or water for more than 60 years, per The Guardian. His skin was covered in soot and pus, according to the BBC.

He also lived in a shack made from cinder block that was built for him by the villagers.

Haji believed that cleanliness would make him sick and villagers also claimed that he had “emotional setbacks in his youth” which caused him not to wash himself, according to The Guardian.

He also smoked pipes filled with animal feces, ate roadkill, and would smoke multiple cigarettes at one time.

He also drank water daily from an old, dirty, bucket.

Despite his habits, People reported that doctors found Haji healthy after examining him earlier this year.

A few months before his death, the villagers reportedly convinced him to take a bath for the first time after many attempts. Not long after, Haji became ill which ultimately led to his death at the age of 94.
