As the coronavirus continues to spread globally, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau’s family is now being affected.

The prime minister confirmed late Thursday that his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, has tested positive for the coronavirus and he is now working in self-isolation.

“Unfortunately, the results of Sophie’s COVID-19 test are positive,” Justin Trudeau posted on Twitter.

Sophie Trudeau, 44, will be in quarantine due to the coronavirus. However, as the prime minister noted, “Her symptoms remain mild and she is taking care of herself and following the advice of our doctor.”

As for himself, Canada’s prime minister says he feels “fine” and is not showing any symptoms of the virus, “but I will also be following the advice of our doctor and I will continue to self-isolate for now.”

While in self-isolation, Justin Trudeau, 48, will be teleworking from home. On Friday, he will be communicating with leaders across Canada to coordinate a response to the coronavirus outbreak. He will then deliver a speech to Canadians about the coronavirus.

“I encourage all Canadians to follow the advice of our medical professionals,” he tweeted.

Check out Justin Trudeau’s posts below:

I am feeling fine & I’m not exhibiting any symptoms of the virus, but I will also be following the advice of our doctor and I will continue to self-isolate for now. During that time, as I did today, I’ll continue to work from home and conduct meetings via video & teleconference.

President Donald Trump spoke with the Canadian prime minister on Thursday, according to a White House pool report.

“The two leaders discussed developments related to the coronavirus pandemic and their efforts to combat the virus,” White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said in a statement. “The leaders also discussed other important bilateral issues, including telecommunications.”

As of Thursday, there were 138 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Canada and one death. In the U.S., at least 1,663 people have confirmed to have the coronavirus and there have been 41 deaths, as of early Friday.
