“The View” co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg may have just come up with one of the dumbest takes on the abortion debate yet.

Yes, her claim that “my child” would be involved in making the decision about abortion was rather wild.

But during a segment on abortion on Wednesday, she might have just topped that.

“As you know, God doesn’t make mistakes,” Goldberg said. “God made us smart enough to know when it wasn’t going to work for us. That’s the beauty of giving us freedom of choice.”

She went on:

“You know, my relationship [with God] is always choppy… because I have a lot of questions… But I also know that God made me smart enough to know that if there are alternatives that are out there that can work for me I will investigate them. But I also know, God said do unto others as you have them do unto you. I will not make that decision for anybody.”

Guest Elisabeth Hasselbeck pushed back as she asked, “What about the life in the womb?

“Life has a plan and a purpose designed by God,” she added.

Finally, Goldberg said, “God knows my heart, and God knows most everybody’s heart.”

Goldberg’s comments come over a month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Pro-life advocates will always have to grapple with how to address challenging scenarios, such as a story about a 10-year-old who reportedly traveled to another state for an abortion after being raped. Or incidents when the life of the mother is at risk.

But there are also not challenging cases of people who cheer abortion because they claim it allows them to achieve their dream job or take a trip to Hawaii.

Now no one can say for sure how God feels about circumstances where an abortion is performed to save the life of the mother. One life for another. What is clear is that the Bible states that there is forgiveness after sin if people repent.

But what is also clear in the Bible, and as Goldberg correctly stated, is that God knows the hearts of people. And no one can hide it if they’re going to get an abortion because it could mess up the plans they have for their future.

People were not “made smart enough” to just decide that having a baby just is not “going to work for us” and our desires or plans.

For those who don’t believe in God, perhaps Goldberg’s claim seems good. But for those who profess to be Christians and believe that our life is not our own, that we aren’t supposed to live solely for our own desires and passions, her claim is a sick perversion of the grace and compassion in the Bible to fit her worldview.
