The U.S. president’s physician does not believe there is a reason currently for a test for President Donald Trump amid concerns over the coronavirus.

Without specifically identifying the person, the physician to the president, Sean Conley, noted in a memo on Friday that the president came into contact briefly — detailed as an “extremely limited” interaction — with an individual at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, who has since confirmed to have the coronavirus. The memo also notes another individual who was at Mar-a-Lago has since tested positive for the coronavirus.

“All interactions occurred before any symptoms onset,” the memo reads.

However, as the memo notes, the interactions are categorized as “low risk” and it adds, “Given the President himself remains without symptoms, testing for COVID-19 is not currently indicated.”

Though the memo does not identify the two people, a photo surfaced this week on social media showing Trump standing next to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s press secretary last weekend. The Brazilian official has since tested positive for the coronavirus, as IJR previously reported.

Trump responded to the news on Thursday, saying he was “not concerned.”

Additionally, acting Ambassador Nestor Forster was at the U.S. president’s table during the time at Mar-a-Lago and it was confirmed late Friday that he has the coronavirus.

On Friday, Trump declared the coronavirus a national emergency, as IJR previously reported.

“To unleash the full power of the federal government in this effort today, I am officially declaring a national emergency. Two very big words,” Trump said at a news conference, adding, “The action I am taking will open up access to up to $50 billion — a very important and a large amount for states and territories or localities in our shared fight against this disease.”
