The Washington Post received criticism for a headline published about Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Users on Twitter took to the platform to blast the outlet for publishing an article with the headline, “Garland vowed to depoliticize Justice. Then the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago.”

The headline sparked several reactions on Twitter.

One user wrote, “Washington Post, reporting in February: Hey, Trump stole a bunch of classified documents and brought them to Mar-a-lago.”

The tweet continued, “Washington Post, ‘reporting’ in August: OMG THIS IS SO POLITICIZED. OUR SWEET BABY BOY, DON TRUMP HAS BEEN WRONGED. HOW DARE YOU, MERRICK GARLAND!”

Another user tweeted, “This is a deeply irresponsible and misleading headline. Garland is not responsible for Trumpists’ histrionics and their perpetual persecution complex—wholly unmoored from reality—is not DOJ politicization.”

One user argued, “The fact that the target of a search warrant is a former elected official doesn’t mean that DOJ has been ‘politicized.’ They’ve charged former elected officials every month since DOJ’s inception.”

Dear dumbass WaPo headline writer who posted this before your Editors changed it. The fact that the target of a search warrant is a former elected official doesn’t mean that DOJ has been “politicized.” They’ve charged former elected officials every month since DOJ’s inception. https://t.co/oGoujyHndz

The Washington Post later tweeted a clarification to the story.

“Clarification: A previous tweet of this story had a headline that has changed after publishing. We’ve deleted the tweet,” the Post tweeted.

The Post’s article, by Perry Stein, suggests the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago has placed Garland “square in the middle of a huge political firestorm.”

According to the piece, “Republican allies on Capitol Hill denounced Garland and pledged to turn the tables and investigate the Justice Department.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) issued a statement calling for answers from the Justice Department on the investigation.

“Attorney General [Merrick] Garland and the Department of Justice should already have provided answers to the American people and must do so immediately,” he said in a statement.
