Walmart and ALDI revealed that they would be slashing the prices on holiday meals as people across the country are dealing with the costs of inflation.

Beginning Nov. 1, both grocery retailers will be reducing the costs of certain products associated with Thanksgiving meals. Both grocery retailers noted that the price cuts would last throughout the entire holiday season, pointing to continued inflation that was “still looming.”

“Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, and we’re so grateful for our many loyal customers from coast-to-coast,” the president of ALDI, Dave Rinaldo said in a statement. “With inflation still looming, we’re providing shoppers extra relief to make the holidays a time for celebration, not stress.”

Walmart said on Wednesday that it will "remove inflation" from Thanksgiving dinner by lowering prices on customers' favorite brands, while Aldi also said it would be lowering prices.https://t.co/Z3sgIFO49u pic.twitter.com/Mm83umzTnr

“What’s served on the Thanksgiving table is just as important as who’s sitting around it,” Rinaldo added. “So ALDI is delivering big savings on key items so there’s always room for more guests.”

Fresh cranberries, french fried onions, prosciutto, pumpkin pie mix, and pecan halves were among the products at ALDI that had their prices reduced, according to the statement from the company.

In a similar press release, Walmart addressed how 92% of the company’s customers are “expressing some level of concern about inflation and how it will impact holiday celebrations.”

“Saving money remains a top priority for our customers, and this holiday season, we’re building on the investments we made last year knowing they need it now more than ever,” John Furner, the president and chief executive officer of Walmart said in the press release.

Walmart revealed that it would be offering “two Thanksgiving meal options” with price cuts. One of them will feature items that are ready-to-bake while the other Thanksgiving meal options will be geared towards people who want to make a meal with ingredients from scratch.

The average cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 people in 2022 was estimated to be around $64, according to the American Farm Bureau (AFB). This was an increase from 2021’s estimated average of roughly $53 and an estimated cost of $46.90 in 2020.

However, due to an increase in turkey production, it is estimated that turkey prices will be reduced. As of July 2023, turkey production was reported to be about 432.3 million pounds, a 9.7% increase from July 2022, according to the AFB.
