Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie cast blame for an impending government shutdown on all of the politicians in Washington, D.C.

During the second Republican Presidential debate held at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California on Wednesday evening, Christie cast blame on the upcoming government shutdown on both Democrats and Republicans, including former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden for tacking money onto the nation’s debt.

“The voters should blame everybody who’s in Washington, D.C.,” Christie answered in response to a question on who was to blame for the shutdown.

Who’s to blame for the upcoming shutdown? Everybody who’s in Washington D.C.

But let’s be honest. Donald Trump added $7 trillion to the national debt in four years, more than any president in history. Now, he’s refusing to show up to the debate and answer for it. pic.twitter.com/n4nFqTQTbJ

“Let’s be honest about this with the voters, during the Trump Administration they added $7 trillion,” Christie said. “$7 trillion in national debt, and now the Biden Administration has put another $5 trillion on and counting. They have failed and they are in the spot they are in now because none of them are willing to tell the truth.”

The federal government is set to begin shutting down on Sunday, Oct. 1 if Congress doesn’t act. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) rejected a spending bill from advancing any further in the Senate Wednesday.

The Senate had revealed a plan which would have funded the government until Nov. 17, and provided aid for Ukraine and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to NBC News. However, there has been uncertainty regarding whether House Republicans would agree to this.

Roughly one million military service members and federal government workers would be at risk of not being paid if the government shuts down, according to Politico.
