A court hearing from Las Vegas, Nevada, is gaining a lot of attention after a video caught a defendant assaulting the judge in the case.
On Wednesday, the incident occurred during a sentencing hearing for Deobra Redden, 30, who pleaded guilty to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm.
In the moments leading up to the assault, Redden’s lawyer asked Judge Mary Kay Holthus to grant probation for his client.
However, Holthus responded, “I appreciate that, but I think it’s time he get a taste of something else.”
“I just can’t with that history,” she added.
According to The New York Times, “Court records show that Mr. Redden previously spent time in prison, including in 2015 when he was sentenced a minimum of 19 months for attempted theft. Mr. Redden served time in 2021 for domestic battery, according to Nevada Department of Corrections records.
Upon hearing Redden was denied probation, he could be heard shouting, “F*** that, b***!”
He then was seen charging the bench and leaping toward the judge.

The flags behind Holthus were knocked over as she appeared to be pulled out of her chair by Redden.
Several men were then seen attempting to restrain him.
The Times notes a court spokeswoman said the judge was injured. Additionally, a court marshal was also taken to a hospital after being injured.
In a statement, the Eighth Judicial District Court said, “We commend the heroic acts of her staff, law enforcement, and all others who subdued the defendant.”
“The court remains committed to a safe and secure courthouse and courtrooms. We are reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees,” it added.
