Former Vice President Mike Pence may deserve a “little bit of a pass” on reportedly taking classified documents to his Indiana home because of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to a co-host of ABC’s “The View.”

The co-hosts discussed the news that yet another high-profile former official had classified documents at their home.

“Does every ex-president and VP need to check around under their houses right now?” Whoopi Goldberg asked on Wednesday.

Co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in as she said, “I feel like Pence does get a little bit of a pass because it was the insurrection, and it was ‘hang Mike Pence.'”

“I completely understand that. And I’m not a Pence fan,” she added.

Goldberg appeared to agree with Hostin’s argument.

Surprise!
Sunny Hostin says Mike Pence gets a pass on having classified documents at home because he was likely backing quickly because of the "hang Mike Pence" chants.

Co-host Joy Behar asked if she was suggesting Pence took classified documents on Jan. 6, 2021.

“I think maybe a staffer put them in there,” Hostin responded.

Goldberg suggested, “There might have been a box on his desk.”

Hostin then shared she thinks every president and vice president is now a “suspect” and added, “I would hate for President Obama to have some classified documents because they have been looking to tarnish this man’s legacy forever.

She stressed she believes “everyone” needs to look for classified documents “because the process is flawed.”

The discovery of classified documents in Pence’s Indiana home comes as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are facing special counsel investigations into their handling of classified documents.

After classified documents were found in an office used by Biden, Behar sought to draw a comparison between his and Trump’s case.

“There [are] differences in what happened,” Behar said. “We all know that Trump is a liar and a thief. We know that. So it’s not that big a jump to say that he obstructed and he lied.”

She continued, “We don’t think that Biden is a liar and a thief, so we give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s partly what’s going on.”
