USA Today reported the victim was hospitalized in Ohio Sunday after the zebra nearly bit his arm off.

The outlet noted he owned the zebra.

Pickaway County Sheriff’s office deputies reportedly discovered the man in a fenced-in field.

He was lying on the ground.

According to the report, the sheriff’s office said the zebra appeared to act aggressive.

The deputies then began blowing air horns and shouting at the zebra to keep the animal away.

However, it was reported that the zebra proceeded to run toward the deputies and fire crews, in addition to members of the victim’s family, per USA Today.

The zebra was shot by a deputy as the behavior continued.

The outlet pointed out initial reporting stated the man lost his arm, but additional information came in saying they were able to reattach his arm.

Zebras are not listed under Ohio’s Department of Agriculture website as a dangerous wild animal.

Ohio’s law generally prohibits residents from “owning, trading, selling or offering for sale a dangerous wild animal (unless the animal was owned prior to the law taking effect, and a permit has been issued by our department).”
