CNN analyst Juliette Kayyem wrote, “This is fundamentally cruel. Whatever the masters of the universe are doing with this website, lots and lots of people — not fancy people, just people with kids and houses and vacation plans and who make companies run and rich men richer — will lose their livelihoods.”

The sink is the metaphorical weight of having to go forward with this purchase at the now ludicrously high valuation having done everything to get out of it. https://t.co/bFo92mY6Kq

A letter has begun circulating among Twitter employees after it was reported that Musk told investors last week he expects to slash 75% of the company’s 7,500 employees.

The Washington Times reported the letter declares the possible firings are “reckless” and includes other demands.

“We demand that leadership does not discriminate against workers on the basis of their race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or political beliefs. We also demand safety for workers on visas, who will be forced to leave the country they work in if they are laid off,” the letter states.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Musk told employees he is not planning on cutting 75% of the staff, citing people familiar with the matter.

Musk’s deadline to complete the purchase of the company comes on Friday.

Additionally, he is expected to address Twitter’s employees the same day, as The New York Times reported.
