Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) attempted to criticize Republicans over their handling of minimum wage and it did not go unnoticed by Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez reacted to a tweet posted by the Republican Party, saying, “60% of workers report living paycheck-to-paycheck.”

She replied, “And yet y’all still voted against raising the minimum wage.”

Twitter added context to the tweet, acknowledging, “Congressional Republicans generally did not support legislation increasing the minimum wage.”

However, the context points out that consumers of “various income levels, not only minimum wage earners, are reported as ‘living paycheck to paycheck’ due to inflation.”

Additionally, the context notes, “Increased inflation reduces real wages.”

The lawmaker also received criticism from others, with one user arguing, “Because we don’t want to pay $18 for a single hamburger in a business that is supposed to only be an entry-level opportunity into the job market for the young…and maybe some retirees to stay busy!”

Another tweet explained, “Raise the minimum wage, the cost of living goes up with it. Why is that so hard for you to understand? The only way to raise wages and standard of living is to make Americans more competitive in the labor market.”

This is not the first time she has expressed her frustration with the minimum wage debate.

Last year, Ocasio-Cortez called it “utterly embarrassing that ‘pay people enough to live’ is a stance that’s even up for debate.”

Override the parliamentarian and raise the wage. McD’s workers in Denmark are paid $22/hr + 6 wks paid vacation. $15/hr is a deep compromise – a big one, considering the phase in.

On Tuesday, ABC News reported 25 states will increase their minimum wages beginning January 1.
