Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard accused President Joe Biden and other Democratic lawmakers of siding with cartels and human traffickers.

“You’re seeing over and over, basically it’s an undermining of the rule of law,” Gabbard pointed out. “This president doesn’t care about the safety and security of the American people. Is unwilling to enforce even the laws that actually exist to protect the American people and ultimately, therefore, is defacto taking the sides of criminals, human traffickers, and the cartels.”

During an interview on Fox News’ “The Five” on Wednesday evening, Gabbard spoke about how Pennsylvania State Police captured Danelo Cavalcante, an escaped convict who had been on the run for two weeks. Gabbard pointed out how communities of people had joined together to “support law enforcement’s ability to catch” Cavalcante, a Brazilian national, in order to defend themselves. Gabbard cited an increasing number of illegal border crossings and a recent internal Border Patrol email instructing more than 6,500 migrants to be released from detention centers.

“In August, we saw the highest number of illegal border crossings, ever in this country,” Gabbard said. “You couple that with the Department of Homeland Security’s leaked letter saying, ‘Hey, we get that the detention facilities are at capacity, so we’re encouraging you guys to release people in the interior to be able to make room and not go over capacity.”

A record number of 91,000 families crossed the southern border during August, surpassing a previous record of 84,486 set in May 2019 under the Trump Administration, according to The New York Times.

On top of this, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) is reportedly detaining around 20,000 migrants and agents report encountering roughly 6,000 migrants a day.

Gabbard compared Biden’s “open border policy” to being “no different from his policies domestically to not prosecute criminals.”

The Biden Administration has continued to receive harsh criticism from Republican lawmakers regarding the increasing number of migrants crossing the southern border. On the other side, the Biden Administration has cast blame on Republicans regarding the crisis at the southern border.

“We need more resources to secure the border,” Biden said, adding that “extreme Republicans have said no. Many Republicans agree we should do something, but it’s time to stop listening to their inflammatory talk. It’s time to look at their record.”
