President Donald Trump is certain his administration will not enforce a COVID-19 lockdown for the nation, but he cannot be sure of what the next administration will do.

“This administration will not be going to a lockdown, hopefully the…whatever happens in the future, who knows which administration it will be. I guess time will tell,” Trump said while delivering remarks Friday from the Rose Garden.

He added, “I can tell you this administration will not go to a lockdown. It won’t be a necessity.”

The co-chair of President-elect Joe Biden’s coronavirus advisory board, former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, indicated the former vice president’s administration is not considering a nationwide lockdown, as IJR previously reported.

“Right now, the way we should be thinking about this is more like a series of restrictions that we dial up or down depending on how bad spread is taking place in a specific region,” Murthy said.

He continued, “We’re not in a place where we’re saying shut the whole country down. We’ve gotta be more targeted. If we don’t do that, what you’re going to find is that people will become even more fatigued, schools won’t be open to children and the economy will be hit harder.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested he does not believe another lockdown is necessary, as IJR previously reported.

“We can do it without a lockdown,” Fauci said during Thursday’s “Good Morning America” interview.

He added, “The best opposite strategy to locking down is to intensify the public health measures short of locking down.”

Biden intends to implore governors and mayors to implement mask mandates once he takes office.

The former vice president stressed to Americans how important it is to wear masks.

“It doesn’t matter who you voted for. Where you stood before election day. It doesn’t matter your party, your point of view. We can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months. Not Democrat or Republican lives, American lives,” Biden said on Monday.
