President Donald Trump took aim at Washington D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) for the protests that took place during and after the final night of the Republican National Convention.
During a political campaign rally in New Hampshire on Friday, Trump criticized Bowser and the protesters whom he described as “thugs.”
As he alluded to a previous accusation, Trump insisted the Democratic mayor is failing at running her city. He also recalled the series of events that unfolded at the close of the convention.
“What I didn’t like, you saw this, right, when it was over?” Trump said. “The thugs outside, because the Democratic mayor of Washington, D.C., it’s another Democrat that’s not believing in law and order. And you know we give Washington, D.C., a lot of money to run it, but they don’t do a good job of running it, the mayor. She doesn’t run anything.”

Trump credited Washington, D.C’s. law enforcement for their presence outside of the convention on Thursday night as he repeatedly referred to protesters who had gathered outside the White House as “thugs.”
Trump continued, “These incredible people from all over the country, all over the world last night, they walked out to a bunch of thugs. And that wasn’t — remember this — that wasn’t friendly protesters, they were thugs. They were thugs.”
The president’s criticism of Bowser comes amid ongoing protests in the fight to end racial injustice and police brutality.
Over the summer, the two clashed on multiple occasions amid the protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department.
Although the president has classified protesters as thugs as he paints a picture of civil unrest and chaos under a Democratic president, all of the latest riots have happened under his leadership.
On multiple occasions, even Senate Republicans have urged Trump to tone down his rhetoric in an effort to quell unrest and call for unity instead of fanning the flames of racism and division, as previously reported on IJR.
However, Trump has continued to tout “law and order” with a focus on Democratic-run cities and states.
