President Donald Trump says he believes that a special counsel should be “immediately” appointed to look into his baseless allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

“After seeing the massive Voter Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election, I disagree with anyone that thinks a strong, fast, and fair Special Counsel is not needed, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote on Wednesday.

He added, “This was the most corrupt election in the history of our Country, and it must be closely examined!”

Twitter added a warning that read, “This claim about election fraud is disputed.”

His tweet comes on Attorney General William Barr’s last day on the job.

During his last press conference as attorney general, Barr told reporters on Monday that he would not appoint a special counsel to look into allegations of voter fraud, or to continue the investigation of Hunter Biden.

When asked if he would support a special counsel to look into allegations of election fraud, Barr said, “If I thought a special counsel at this stage was the right tool and was appropriate, I would name one. But I haven’t, and I’m not going to.”

He also said, “To this point, I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel [into Hunter Biden], and I have no plan to do so before I leave.”

President-elect Joe Biden won the November 3 presidential election, however, Trump has refused to concede the election as he has alleged there was widespread fraud that cost him his reelection bid.

Trump has reportedly considered naming attorney Sydney Powell a special counsel to look into his election allegations. Additionally, more than two dozen House Republicans urged Trump to ask Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate his election claims.

However, Barr told the Associated Press in an interview, “To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”

After blasting Barr as a “disappointment” earlier this month, Trump announced he would be resigning on December 23.
