Former President Donald Trump is warning the situation at the southern border “could destroy our country.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump how dangerous the situation is at the border and what he thinks the media would say if he were president.

“They’re playing it down as much as they can play it down. It’s a horrible situation, could destroy our country,” Trump said during his first on-camera interview since leaving the White House.

He continued, “People are pouring in. But you’ll see something as the months go by like you’ve never seen before. Already it’s like you’ve never seen before. There’s never been anything like what’s happened at our border. People are coming in by the tens of thousands. They’re walking in. … All they had to do was leave it alone.”

Watch his remarks below:

Earlier last month, Trump tore into Biden for the crisis at the border, as IJR previously reported.

“When I was president, our southern border was in great shape — stronger, safer, and more secure than ever before. We ended Catch-and-Release, shut down asylum fraud, and crippled the vicious smugglers, drug dealers, and human traffickers,” Trump said in a statement.

He added, “The wall, despite horrendous Democratic delays, would have easily been finished by now, and is working magnificently. Our country is being destroyed at the Southern border, a terrible thing to see!”

Over the weekend, Biden acknowledged the situation at the border is a crisis while explaining why the administration first said it would not increase the limit of refugees allowed to enter the country and then changed its position after receiving backlash.

“We’re going to increase the number [of refugees],” Biden said, adding, “The problem was that the refugee part was working on the crisis that ended up on the border with young people. We couldn’t do two things at once. But now we are going to increase the number.”
