Trump expressed his support for Sanders in her run for Arkansas governor in January, as IJR previously reported.

In a statement, Trump called Sanders a “warrior who will always fight for the people of Arkansas and do what is right, not what is politically correct.”

He added, “Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers. She loves our Military and Veterans — and her home state of Arkansas.”

Trump said she will be a “great governor” and has his “complete and total endorsement.”

In her video announcement, Sanders promised, “I will not retreat, I will not surrender and I will not bow down to the radical left.”

Sanders’ father, Mike Huckabee, a former Governor of Arkansas, took to Twitter to respond to her announcement. He called her “smart [and] compassionate, but fearless for what’s right.”

Trump announced on Twitter in June of 2019 that Sanders would be leaving the White House. She was a White House press secretary under the Trump administration.

“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,” Trump wrote.

He added, “She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”

Sanders said she “loved every minute, even the hard minutes” during her time at the White House, adding, “I love the president. I love the team that I’ve had the opportunity to work for.”
