He said, “No one who lived through the horror of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks can ever forget the agony and the anguish of that terrible day.”

Trump remembered the destruction of “those monstrous attacks” and the “2,977 precious souls who were savagely taken from us on that morning 22 years ago.”

He also vowed to pray for the families affected and remembered the first responders who were first on the scene.

“They acted with supreme heroism,” he noted and went on to state, “God bless the memory of all of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks.”

Trump then concluded, “We will never ever forget.”

Trump was in New York when the Twin Towers were struck. According to Politico, he did a WWOR interview where he noted, “This country is different today and it’s going to be different than it ever was for many years to come.”

“I guess the big thing you really will have to do is never forget,” he added.

Trump had considered running for president in 2000 and this disaster led him to forge stronger political bonds.

Rudy Giuliani, then mayor of New York City, was two blocks from the attack. He walked two miles with dust and ash on his shoulders to see the wreckage after trying to contact the vice president, according to the New York Times.

During a press conference a few hours later, he addressed the nation stating, “The tragedy that we are undergoing right now is something that we’ve had nightmares about.

“My heart goes out to all the innocent victims of this horrible and vicious act of terrorism. And our focus now has to be to save as many lives as possible,” he added.

According to The Guardian, Giuliani became “America’s mayor.” His leadership led him to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

While Giulani’s leadership during the tragedy was hailed as heroic across the globe, Trump had been a New Yorker for years and that shared experience led them both to remain friendly and work to remember the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the years since.

Both Trump and Giuliani are currently facing criminal charges for seeking to challenge the 2020 election results, but Trump recently hosted a $100,000 fundraiser to aid the former New York mayor with his legal fees, per AP News.

Despite their legal battles, not only has Trump stopped to honor those who fell during 9/11, but Giuliani also posted on the 22-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

He wrote, “As we reflect 22 years later, let us not only remember the tragedy but also the triumph of the human spirit that emerged from the darkness.”

He remembered the victims and the first responders who perished trying to save them.

Giuliani then concluded, “May we always carry the legacy of these heroes with us as their courage and selflessness serve as a guiding light in our lives. To all the innocent souls we lost that day—we honor you, we remember you, and we will #NeverForget.
