Former President Donald Trump is issuing his first reaction to the news that a grand jury in New York City voted to indict him.

In a lengthy statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said, “This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.”

“From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement,” he continued.

Trump added, “The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable – indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference.”

The former president took aim at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg who he claimed was “hand-picked and funded by George Soros” and labeled a “disgrace.”

“He’s doing Joe Biden’s dirty work, ignoring the murders and burglaries and assaults he should be focused on,” Trump claimed.

Finally, he predicted the “Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden.”

The statement concluded:

“The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The New York Times reported Thursday evening, “A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Donald J. Trump on Thursday for his role in paying hush money to a porn star, according to four people with knowledge of the matter.”

Do you think it will backfire?

“The felony indictment, filed under seal by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, will likely be announced in the coming days,” it added.

The paper noted the exact charges are not known yet.

Still, Joe Tacopina, a lawyer for the former president, confirmed Trump was informed of the grand jury’s vote to indict him.

He will be the first former president to face charges.

Eric Trump tweeted after the news broke, “This is third world prosecutorial misconduct. It is the opportunistic targeting of a political opponent in a campaign year.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. wrote, “This isn’t just the radical left weaponizing the government to target their political enemies, this is them weaponizing the government to interfere in the 2024 election to stop Trump.”

“The only solution is to shove it down their throats and put him back in the White House!!!” he added.

The former president claimed he would be arrested earlier this month in connection to the hush money investigation.

He has previously said he would not drop out of the race if he was indicted. Additionally, he also warned of the potential for “death” and “destruction” if charges in the case were brought.
