President Donald Trump is taking aim at former Vice President Joe Biden’s suggestion for a virtual Democratic National Convention amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The president took to Twitter with a mocking tweet about the Democratic frontrunner.

“Joe Biden wanted the date for the Democrat National Convention moved to a later time period,” Trump tweeted. “Now he wants a ‘Virtual’ Convention, one where he doesn’t have to show up. Gee, I wonder why?”

Trump went on to mention the phone call Biden’s campaign was supposed to schedule so the two could discuss the coronavirus relief efforts. Although there have been reports about the call, it has not been made, according to Trump.

“Also, whatever happened to that phone call he told the Fake News he wanted to make to me?” Trump tweeted.

Shortly after Trump made his remarks, Biden offered a response, suggesting contingent terms for a possible discussion. He also challenged the president to “do what needs to be done to handle this pandemic.”

With the tweet, Biden offered a link to his campaign website with a suggested coronavirus response plan.

“Mr. President, I hope we can gather in Milwaukee, but that is going to depend on you stepping up and doing what needs to be done to handle this pandemic,” Biden tweeted.

“I have laid out how you can do that … Happy to discuss anytime,” he added.

Trump’s tweet comes just days after Biden’s virtual campaign fundraiser where he confirmed his team would be scheduling the call.

“Yesterday, the Trump administration suggested I should call the president to offer my help,” Biden said during Thursday’s fundraiser. “Well, I’m happy to hear he’ll take my call; my team’s working with him to set it up.”

As of Monday afternoon, there is still no publicly known scheduled time for a call between Trump and Biden.
