President Donald Trump is sharing his respect for Queen Elizabeth II after Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, announce that they want to “step back” on their duties as senior members.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote in a statement on Instagram on Wednesday.

They added, “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

Late Wednesday, Buckingham Palace issued a statement: “Discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”

The news of the couple wanting to “step back” on their roles as senior members has drawn a lot of responses on Twitter. Some even dubbed it “Megxit.”

Speaking with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump said that he felt “sad” for the Queen.

Asked if he would give the Queen any advice on the “rogue royals,” Trump responded, “I think it’s sad. She’s a great woman. […] She’s never made a mistake if you look. I mean, she’s had like a flawless time.”

“I just have such respect for the Queen,” Trump said in the interview aired late Friday, adding, “I don’t think this should be happening to her.”

While the couple state that they plan to “balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America,” they did not identify exactly where they would be living. However, some speculate that it would be Canada. The two spent six-weeks in Canada at the end of 2019, and Meghan has returned to the country in recent days following the unexpected announcement.
