President Donald Trump suggested that if he does not strike a deal with Democrats to include funding for the post office in the next stimulus package, universal mail-in voting will not happen.

Appearing on Fox Business on Thursday, Trump slammed universal mail-in voting and the Democrats for demanding more funding for the post office.

“They want $25 billion for the post office. Now, they need that money in order to have the post office work so it could take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” Trump said, after saying Democrats want $3.5 billion for “election money, basically.”

He added, “Now, in the meantime, they aren’t getting there. By the way, those are just two items. But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.”

Watch his comments below (starting at 10:30):

Host Maria Bartiromo pressed Trump as she asked him if this is the reason behind stalled negotiations.

“That’s one of them,” Trump said.

He went on to explain there is “nothing wrong with getting out and voting.”

Trump reiterated the two items holding up negotiations are funding for the post office and mail-in voting.

“Now, if we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money. That means they can’t have universal mail-in voting,” Trump said.

He continued, “They just can’t have it. So, you know, sort of a crazy thing.”

Trump doubled down on his past remarks as he claimed this will be the “greatest fraud” in history.

According to Trump, it will be “almost” comparable to former President Barack Obama “spying” on his campaign, “but not quite.”

His comments come one day after he told reporters, during his press briefing, the greatest threat to Democracy is not China, Russia, or Iran, it is Democrats and their push for universal mail-in voting, as IJR previously reported.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said on Friday if the agency does not experience “dramatic change,” it will “face an impending liquidity crisis.”
