President Donald Trump is defending his Memorial Day weekend golfing trip despite the pandemic.

On Sunday night, the president took to Twitter with a series of fiery tweets in response to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s latest political ad.

In response to the scrutinizing ad, Trump tweeted, “Sleepy Joe’s representatives have just put out an ad saying that I went to play golf (exercise) today. They think I should stay in the White House at all times.”

Trump went on to compare his presidential vacationing to President Barack Obama and Biden’s vacations accusing them of “vacationing, relaxing & making shady deals with other countries.”

He continued, “What they didn’t say is that it’s the first time I’ve played golf in almost 3 months, that Biden was constantly vacationing, relaxing & making shady deals with other countries, and that Barack was always playing golf, doing much of his traveling in a fume spewing 747 to play golf in Hawaii.”

He also referenced a 2014 incident when Obama was criticized for golfing shortly after he announced that the Islamic State had killed an American.

“Once even teeing off immediately after announcing the gruesome death of a great young man by ISIS!” Trump tweeted.

CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller also weighed in with the statistics on Obama’s vacationing and travel. He also included information on each president’s travel at the same point during their presidencies.

Knoller tweeted, “Fact Check: at same point in presidency: Pres Trump has made 30 visits to Palm Beach, total air travel 51,540 miles Pres Obama made 3 vacation trips to Hawaii, total air travel 28,978 miles.”

Trump’s tweets come just two days after Dr. Anthony Fauci weighed in with advice about Memorial Day weekend.

Despite the criticism the president has received, the top infectious disease expert encouraged everyone to “go out” and enjoy the weekend, as previously reported on IJR.

“Memorial Day, it’s a very important holiday. Hopefully the sun will be out,” Fauci said. “We’ll be having people who want to get out there and get fresh air.”
