President Donald Trump is lashing out at former National Security Advisor John Bolton for weighing in on a report indicating Trump considered the possibility of implementing martial law.

“What would Bolton, one of the dumbest people in Washington, know? Wasn’t he the person who so stupidly said, on television, ‘Libyan solution’, when describing what the U.S. was going to do for North Korea?” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

He added, “I’ve got plenty of other Bolton ‘stupid stories’.”

The New York Times reported Trump asked about former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s idea to “impose martial law and deploy the military to ‘rerun’ the election.”

During his appearance on CNN, Bolton did not hold back on criticizing the president for considering the idea.

“This is appalling. There’s no other way to describe it. It’s unbelievable, almost certainly, completely, without precedent. But, I think it’s important to understand this is just another day at the office, at the oval,” Bolton said on Saturday.

He continued, “There’s a difference between competence and malevolence and in Trump’s case this is incompetence. He’s unfit for the job. I don’t think he’s ever read the Constitution. If he has he clearly doesn’t understand it.”

Bolton has repeatedly voiced his criticism of Trump for refusing to acknowledge the results of the election.

During his appearance on NBC in November, Chuck Todd noted some Republicans “fear” Trump more than Bolton does, as IJR previously reported.

“What’s the president going to do to me, sue me?” Bolton responded.

He went on, “Come at me again. I’m ready.”

Trump blasted Bolton on Twitter for his criticisms, as IJR previously reported.

“John Bolton was one of the dumbest people in government that I’ve had the ‘pleasure’ to work with. A sullen, dull, and quiet guy, he added nothing to National Security except, ‘Gee, let’s go to war.’ Also, illegally released much Classified Information. A real dope!” Trump wrote.
