Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce revealed how sports helped boost his self-esteem while struggling in school.

In an exclusive interview with People, Kelce, 33, said sports gave him “a lot of confidence.”

“I wasn’t the best student in terms of reading and doing math and everything,” he explained.

The Super Bowl champ recalled excelling “on the field and on the court,” which helped him become “much more confident” in who he was.

“Being able to just get onto the field or an event where I know I have a lot of confidence, like football, basketball, or baseball, that fueled me,” he continued.

After 10 seasons in the NFL, Kelce said, “My confidence definitely built more as my career has excelled, without a doubt.”

He also referred to himself as a “sports fiend.”

He shared:

“I’m a sports fanatic. I absolutely love just throwing on ESPN or the NHL. I’ll always pop a MLB game on; I’m a huge Cleveland Guardians fan. And obviously, the NBA is one of the most fun things to watch. So I’m all over the place, really. You can catch me watching anything.”

After competing against his brother, Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce, in the 2023 Super Bowl in February, Travis Kelce spoke about his win to reporters.

“You joke around all the time and say that you want to beat your brother in the biggest stage ever, but it’s a weird feeling. It’s a weird feeling and that team had great leadership, great coaches. Obviously, it came down to the end and we got all the respect in the world for those Eagles, man, but there’s nothing I could really to say to him other than I love him and he played a hell of a year, a hell of a season,” he said.
