Tim Scott Vows to Fire Christopher Wray If Elected

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and Republican presidential candidate vouched to fire both Attorney General Merrick Garland and Director of the FBI Christopher Wray.

Scott claimed the Department of Justice is being weaponized by the Biden Administration against former President Donald Trump and parents at school board meetings.

“We should be asking ourselves a bigger question about the weaponization of the Department of Justice,” Scott said. “When I’m president, the first thing I’ll do is fire Merrick Garland. The second thing I’ll do, fire Christopher Wray.”

Scott said Americans need “Lady Justice to wear a blindfold.”

“Without that, no one has confidence in our justice system,” Scott said. “Seventeen percent of Republicans have confidence in our Department of Justice. Here’s why, we keep seeing not only the weaponization of the Department of Justice against political opponents, but also against parents who show up at school board meetings,” Scott said.

In September 2021, the National School Board Association sent a letter to President Joe Biden requesting help from federal law enforcement to deal with “threats and violence” from parents and protesters at school board meetings. The NSBA referenced parents’ actions as being “equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism.”

In October 2021, Garland appeared before Congress and testified that the FBI would not be labeling parents’ protests at school boards as being domestic terrorism. A month later, whistleblower documents showed that he may have lied.

The documents allegedly showed that the FBI’s counterterrorism and criminal investigative departments had been tracking threats against teachers by placing “threat tags” on certain instances.
