Singer Taylor Swift has been typically been politically silent but that shattered on Friday when the musician blasted President Donald Trump on Twitter and promised, “We will vote you out in November.”
Swift wrote, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November.”
She also tagged the president in the tweet.

A number of people, like CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy quickly remarked that this is a “stark contract to Swift in 2016.”

Swift became slightly more political in the midterm elections and said earlier this year that she wrote a recent song “after the midterm elections, when there were so many young people who rallied for their candidate, whether it was a senator or congressman or congresswoman.”
In an interview with the entertainment trade publication Variety, 30-year-old Swift said that she felt encouraged to stay away from commenting on politics when she was younger, explaining, “Every time I didn’t speak up about politics as a young person, I was applauded for it.”
In an Instagram post just before the midterms, Swift announced endorsements for Democrats Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper, who she said that she would be voting for.
“I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” she wrote.

She has also spoken out in support of the Equality Act, which is aimed at curbing discrimination against the LGBT community and was passed in the House in 2019.
The music star started a petition to draw attention to the legislation, writing, “Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.”
