Alan Hamel, husband of late actress Suzanne Somers, revealed the personalized gift she was wearing as she was laid to rest.

In an exclusive interview with People, Hamel, 87, shared he ordered his wife Timberland boots which he penned with a special message.

“Suzanne never really had boots designed for hiking on the rocks, so I ordered the Timberland boots,” he explained. “[I] made my gift personal by drawing on them in a few words that represented our life to some degree and made them very personal to Suzanne.”

Hamel also spoke about Somers’ love for a particular brand of shoes, stating she had “every

However, he said her wearing the luxury shoes for her “final trip” would “have been predictable but not very personal.”

“Every time she put on the Timberlands, she said, ‘I am wearing you, and my boots will keep me safe,'” Hamel recalled.

Somers was laid to rest on Nov. 30, according to the New York Post.

The “Three’s Company” actress died peacefully in the early morning of Oct. 15, one day shy of her birthday. She was 76, per People.

Somers’ longtime publicist R. Couri Hay released a statement on Somer’s family following her passing.

“Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Hay wrote.

The statement continued, “Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

According to Somers’ death certificate, obtained by The Blast, she died from “breast cancer with metastasis to the brain.” Hydrocephalus and hypertension were also listed as underlying conditions that contributed to her death.

For over a year, Somers suffered from hydrocephalus, which causes “abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain,” per her death certificate.
