The Supreme Court rejected a bid to revive Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction.
According to The Washington Post, the justices provided no comment on the decision to deny the bid after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the conviction last year.
Publicist Andrew Wyatt issued a statement on behalf of Cosby and his family.
“Mr. Cosby’s Constitutional Rights were a ‘reprehensible bait and switch’ by Kevin Steele, Judge Steve T. O’Neill and their cohort,” Wyatt said.
He continued, “This is truly a victory for Mr. Cosby but it shows that cheating will never get you far in life and the corruption that lies within Montgomery County District’s Attorney Office has been brought to the center stage of the world.”
In 2018, Cosby was convicted on three counts of sexual assault. He was later released from prison after the state court ruled he was wrongly convicted, as the Post reported.
“I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence,” Cosby tweeted at the time.
He added, “Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law.”
One of his lawyers, Brian W. Perry, said he had been “dealing with Mr. Cosby on a regular basis for over two years, and he has never been anything but positive,” adding, “He always believed this would be the outcome.”
