A stray dog was found carrying a baby in a garbage bag by a Tripoli municipal building in Lebanon Wednesday. According to The National News, a passer-by heard the baby’s cries.

The baby was discovered with bruises across her body and face. This sparked outrage at the baby girl’s condition, which was listed as “serious but stable,” via Ya Libnan.

Tripoli journalist Ghassan Rifi noted, “Usually, when someone wants to give up their kids, they place them in front of an orphanage or a police station.”

He also described the serious stray dog issue in the area and how dangerous it gets at night.

Abdulrahman Darwish, Union of Relief and Development Associations representative in Tripoli, dissuaded any connection between the incident and Syrian refugee camps, noting that “no one has ever dumped their newborn on a street full of stray dogs.”

The Ya Libnan report also stated the baby “is believed to be only a few hours old,” but other reports have claimed she may be as old as 4 months, according to the New York Post.

Lebanese Twitter user Farid praised the dog for bringing the baby to humans. He said, “The dog has humanity, kindness, cunning, and intelligence much more than some satanic mutants in human forms.”

“I hope this child will be adopted from a family,” he added.

Another user known as Sahar®️AlAtrash posted about the story. She wrote, “What crime is this! The dog has more humanity than its criminals!”

Concern for the dog is being expressed all the way into the United States. U.S. Army veteran The Real Tombi commented on the New York Post’s Tweet about the story stating, “That dog better now have a new home and a lifetime supply of yummy treats….”

The original Ya Libnan report noted an investigation is underway and the baby will be up for adoption after she recovers, but there has been no update on the status of the dog who saved her.
