Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry teamed up with the cash back reward program Rakuten to elevate independent black designers.

In an exclusive interview with People, Curry, 35, shared how he felt about the partnership with Rakuten to give black designers more recognition.

“It’s an awesome way to create representation in a field that needs it,” the basketball star said. “I’m no designer, I’m no fashion mogul, but I know there are creative ways to shine a light on some amazing talent.”

Curry added, “I’m excited for the world to see these designers on a new stage.”

Curry will host conversations with designers represented by the Black In Fashion Council, whose mission is to “represent and secure the advancement of Black individuals in the fashion and beauty industry,” according to its website.

He will also wear looks from the designers in tunnel walks to support them and give them a platform to shine.

“Most of the designers I’ve met for the first time. I heard their stories of how they got started in the industry and what inspires them and their brand,” the four-time NBA champion explained.

Curry continued, “I met with Paul Richards, Keith Heron, and Des Pierre Wo in person and saw their excitement about what it means to work on this project together.”

The looks will be available to be worn by consumers and can be found on Rakuten.com on Oct. 25. New pieces from Curry’s looks will be added each month following every reveal, per People.

“With the platform I have I also have the blessings to extend reach across the world…and find creative ways to elevate people who need support and deserve support, resources, and attention,” Curry said of his influence.

When describing his own style for game day, he used the words “comfortable, casual, and versatile.”
