Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is blasting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and putting the blame on the House speaker “for the tragedy that occurred on January 6th.”

“There is a reason that Nancy Pelosi is the most disliked elected official in America. She always puts her own partisan politics over what’s best for the American people,” Stefanik, who serves as the chair of the House Republican Conference, said on Tuesday.

The third-ranking House Republican then called Pelosi an “authoritarian who has broken the People’s House.”

Taking aim at Pelosi for rejecting two House Republicans for the select committee that will investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, Stefanik said the House speaker “doesn’t want the American people to know the truth or learn the facts.”

“She doesn’t want a fair or bipartisan investigation, she wants a political one,” Stefanik continued. “It is a fact that on that December of 2020, Nancy Pelosi was made aware of potential security threats to the Capitol, and she failed to act.”

She later added:

“The American people deserve to know the truth — that Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility as Speaker of the House for the tragedy that occurred on January 6. And it was only after Republicans started asking these important questions that she refused to seat them. House Republicans will continue to follow the truth and the facts and support our law enforcement officers to make sure this never happens again in the U.S. Capitol — the People’s House.”

Stefanik also tweeted, “It was only after Republican members began asking questions that Speaker Pelosi refused to seat them. House Republicans will continue to follow the truth and the facts and support our law enforcement to make sure this never happens again.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) delivered an opening statement during the House select committee’s first hearing on Tuesday.

“If those responsible are not held accountable, and if Congress does not act responsibly, this will remain a cancer on our constitutional Republic, undermining the peaceful transfer of power at the heart of our democracy system,” Cheney said.
