‘Stay Close to God’: Exorcist Priest Warns Against Use of Ouija Boards

An exorcist priest spoke about the dangers of using Ouija boards to contact the dead.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, the Rev. Dan Reehil of the Diocese of Nashville spoke about the spiritual world.

“We too often forget that there is much more to this world than meets the eye. Angels, demons, spirits, and souls do exist and they can have an impact on our life,” he said.

In 2018, Reehil received exorcism training at Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum in Rome, Italy.

He explained that an exorcist “is a priest chosen and installed by a bishop to exercise the office of deliverance ministry. Exorcism is a specific form of prayer that the [Catholic] Church uses against the power of the devil.” 

“Demons lie and impersonate dead people. When asking a board for information about a deceased person, or a life decision, they are all too happy to embed themselves into your life,” Reehil said.

He continued, “Using an Ouija board is inviting a demon into your life, whether the person has that intention or not.”

According to the Library of Congress, the first Ouija board was created in 1886 in Chestertown, Maryland. The talking board “is a board printed with letters and numbers that uses a sliding pointer to spell out messages in a mysterious way.”

“Ouija boards should not be viewed in the same way as a typical board game,” Reehil stated. “Although it is advertised as a game, it is far from it.”

Furthermore, he referred to the tool as “a form of divination.”

Ecclesiastes 9:5 says, “For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.”

Reehil also noted divination and other occult practices are condemned in the Bible countless times.

“The very action of using [the Ouija board] has profound spiritual consequences [that are] beyond our control,” he said. 

Additionally, Reehil emphasized, “Whenever we seek to engage demons, we move away from the One True God.”

“Stay away from all forms of occult practices — and stay close to God,” he shared.
