A statue of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was unveiled to celebrate her birthday and acknowledge Women’s History Month.

New York State Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams unveiled the statue in Ginsburg’s hometown of Brooklyn, New York.

“She is a role model to me and to everyone everywhere. Her legacy will live on,” Bichotte Hermelyn said.

She continued, “Her work is not over — we must continue championing women’s rights. Gender bias is still alive and well, even in our progressive city.”

Gillie and Marc, the artists behind the statue, said in a statement, “The final statue, which she endorsed, reflects her wish to be depicted in a dignified manner.”

They added, “With the two steps on its large base representing the Supreme Court and the climb she made to get there, the work is designed to provide the public with an opportunity to stand at her side, and gain inspiration from her journey fighting for equal rights.”

Ginsburg died in September of 2020 from complications of metastatic pancreas cancer at the age of 87, as IJR previously reported.

Tributes poured in following Ginsburg’s death. Former President Donald Trump told reporters, “She led an amazing life. Whether you agree or not, she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life.”

He added in a statement, “May her memory be a great and magnificent blessing to the world.”

President Joe Biden called Ginsburg “an American hero, a giant of legal doctrine, and a relentless voice in the pursuit of that highest American ideal: Equal Justice Under Law.”

The Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in October of 2020, just 30 days after Trump nominated her to fill Ginsburg’s seat, as IJR previously reported.
