Stacey Abrams Slammed Over ‘Worst State’ Comments

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp's (R) reelection campaign took aim at Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams over her previous remarks about the state.

"Georgia’s the worst, according to Stacey Abrams," a narrator says in the ad released Tuesday.

The ad then played back a clip of Abrams' comments.

"I am tired of hearing about how we’re the best state in the country to do business when we are the worst state in the country to live in," Abrams said.

The narrator continued, "Bless her heart. Georgia leads the nation because Brian Kemp is governor. He reopened Georgia first, brought thousands of jobs, and Kemp’s cut taxes to help families deal with Biden’s inflation. Brian Kemp’s kept Georgia the best place to live."

Abrams previously contextualized her comments, explaining , "When you’re No. 48 for mental health, when we’re No. 1 for maternal mortality, when you have an incarceration rate that’s on the rise and wages that are on the decline, then you are not the No. 1 place to live."

She continued, "Georgia is capable of greatness, but we need greatness to be in our governor’s office. We need someone who actually believes in bringing all of us in there together."

Abrams concluded, "We’re going to make sure the state of Georgia does its job. We’re going to take care of our people in the state of Georgia."

When asked if her comment was a mistake, Abrams responded, "I had an inelegant delivery of a statement that I will keep making, and that is that Brian Kemp is a failed governor who doesn't care about the people of Georgia."

Last month, the Republican Governors Association (RGA) released an ad of their own taking aim at Abrams, as IJR reported.

"Typical Stacey Abrams. She believes only she knows what’s best," the ad stated.

The narrator continued, "Small businesses and schools closed. Strict mandates on everyone but herself."

The ad argued Abrams "believes she can spend your money better than you. That’s why she’s supported higher gas taxes, a new sales tax, supports higher property taxes."
