Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), a member of the Democratic so-call “Squad,” says she is unharmed after her vehicle was struck by gunfire in her home state.

In a tweet on Thursday, Bush wrote, “I’m touched by everyone who has reached out. Thankfully no one was harmed. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul.”

“That’s why our movement is working to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep everyone safe,” she added.

She was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

But any act of gun violence shakes your soul.

KSDK News reported on Thursday that a “vehicle belonging to Congresswoman Cori Bush, D-St. Louis, was hit by gunfire early Saturday morning” in the St. Louis area.

In a statement, Bush said, “Like far too many of us in St. Louis, experiencing gun violence is all too familiar.”

“No one should have to fear for their safety here in St. Louis, and that is exactly why our movement is working every day to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep every neighborhood safe,” she added.

A source told KSDK that it is not believed Bush was targeted.

Earlier this year, Bush defended spending thousands of dollars on private security as she raised concerns about her safety.

In August, she told CBS News, “I have private security because my body is worth being on this planet right now. I have private security, because they, the white supremacist, racist narrative that they drive into this country, the fact that they don’t care that this Black woman…who puts her life on the line, they don’t care that I could be taken out of here.”

“I’m going to make sure I have security because I know I have had attempts on my life. And I have too much work to do. There are too many people that need help right now for me to allow that,” Bush continued. “So if I end up spending 200,000, if I spend ten more dollars on it, you know what? I get to be here to do the work. So suck it up. And defunding the police has to happen. We need to defund the police and put that money into social safety nets because we’re trying to save lives.”
