Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) opened about her experience with an abortion she had.
Bush shared the details about her second abortion during an interview on PBS’s “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover.”
Hoover noted Bush “became pregnant two years later when you were 19, and you chose to have an abortion. You went to an abortion clinic, at this time you were enrolled in university.”
She added, “You got to the clinic and had second thoughts.”
Bush replied, “I was thinking back to the first abortion.”
She continued, “Okay, you’ve done this before, you know the rooms, you know what it looks like, you know what it feels like in this place, you know what to expect. You know that you may even experience even some harm or some racism in this space. I thought I was ready.”
Bush suggested the experience is “almost like an assembly line.”
According to Bush, as she was helped up onto the table, she thought about how she did not inform the father of her decision.
“I just felt like I needed more time,” Bush said, adding, “So I said ‘no, you know what, I’m not ready.’”
The lawmaker claimed the nurse “just wouldn’t listen to me. And I said, ‘no, I’m not ready.'”
While Bush was telling them no, they allegedly kept preparing the instruments for the procedure.
“They absolutely ignored me even to the point of ‘calm down,’ as if I was the problem,” Bush said.

Later in the interview, Bush recalled looking around to see if there was someone else that would listen to her.
“During this time, they put the instrument inside me and started the instrument, and I’m saying ‘no,’ but it was too late, because you couldn’t stop once it started,” she said.
Bush previously testified about getting an abortion as a teenager during a House hearing in 2021.
