Former Vice President Mike Pence vowed to pass a federal death penalty for mass shooters.

“I am sick and tired of these mass shootings happening in the United States of America,” Pence said during the second Republican presidential debate on Wednesday evening. “When I’m President, I’m going to go to Congress and we’re going to pass a federal expedited death penalty for anyone involved in a mass shooting so that they will meet their fate in months not years.”

During the debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA, Pence criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) because Nikolas Cruz, the shooter responsible for the deaths of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida received a life sentence in prison after pleading guilty.

Pence labeled it as “unconscionable” that Cruz was “actually going to spend the rest of his life behind bars in Florida.”

“That’s not justice,” Pence said of Cruz’s sentence. “We have to weed out justice and send a message to these would-be-killers that you are noting going to live out your days behind bars.”

Pence has previously expressed his support for an expedited federal death penalty for anyone involved in a mass shooting.
