It is reported three adult staffers were killed in the shooting.

Officials say the shooter is a female “who appears to be in her teens.” The shooter was “armed with at least two assault style weapons and a handgun,” as CNN’s Abby Phillip notes, citing the press conference.

UPDATE [03/27/23, 2:06 p.m. EST]:

Police say the shooter was 28 years old, per a White House reporter for The Associated Press.

At least three students of a Christian school were killed after a shooter opened fire, according to officials.

Additionally, two adults were killed in the shooting, officials said.

On Monday, a gunman opened fire in The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Police said officers “engaged” the gunman, and the suspect “is dead.”

In a tweet, the Metro Nashville Police Department wrote, “An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd.”

Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson John Howser said in a statement, “We can now confirm 3 children and 2 adults from the school shooting were transported to our Adult Emergency Department (2 adults) and (3 children) to the Pediatric Emergency Department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.”

“All 5 patients have been pronounced dead,” he added.

NBC News notes, “The names and ages of the victims and the gunman have not been released.”

“Shortly after police announced the shooter was dead, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also said ‘there is no current threat to public safety,’” it added.

According to NBC, the school “serves pre-school students through sixth graders.”
