Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is hoping to force a vote on a subpoena that involves former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

In a letter, Johnson said that he hopes to find out whether Blue Star “sought to leverage Hunter Biden’s role as a board member of Burisma to gain access to, and potentially influence matters at, the State Department.”

He’s also hoping to subpoena Andrii Telizhenko, who formerly worked as a consultant for Blue Star.

Johnson said that Telizhenko indicated that he would be open to providing documents but that Blue Star has stonewalled him.

“Because Mr. Telizhenko’s records and information would be responsive to the committee’s requests, and Blue Star has refused to provide them, a subpoena to Mr. Telizhenko for these records is appropriate at this time,” he wrote.

This is not the first time that Senator Johnson has pushed for an investigation that would encompass Hunter Biden but a number of observers, including Washington Post media columnist Aaron Blake, noted that the Republicans have not tweeted or issued a press release about Burisma or Hunter Biden since February 7th and that the new push comes only a day after Biden won South Carolina.

The Justice Department has said that they are receiving information about the Bidens from Trump’s private lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

And it’s not the first time that Johnson has pushed what could be viewed as politically-motivated investigations. In late 2019, he sent a letter to the National Archives asking for information about Hillary Clinton’s emails.
