Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says former First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech at Monday night’s Democratic National Convention delivered an important message to Americans.
Schumer, the Senate minority leader, was asked during Tuesday’s CNN interview what the “single message” Obama made was during her virtual convention speech.
“We cannot be complacent in any way, and we have to remove Donald Trump from office and put Joe Biden in and get America moving on so many issues, including fighting the racism that is still so endemic in our society,” Schumer said.
The Senate minority leader continued to praise Obama’s speech as “so powerful.” He then applauded Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) message about unity, which he says he will address during his speech as well on Tuesday.
Asked how he is going to “top” those speeches during his remarks, Schumer responded, “I’m not trying to top it,” and added that he will also touch on immigration.

Obama scorched President Donald Trump in her speech, while also calling on Americans to vote in the upcoming election, as IJR reported.
“If you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can; and they will if we don’t make a change in this election,” she said. “If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.”
Even Fox News’ Chris Wallace said the former first lady “really flayed, sliced and diced Donald Trump” during her speech, as IJR also reported.
Additionally, Sanders said during his speech, “Joe Biden will end the hate and division that Trump has created. He will stop the demonization of immigrants, the coddling of white nationalists, the racist dog-whistling, the religious bigotry, and the ugly attacks on women.”
“The future of our democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. The future of our planet is at stake,” he later added. “We must come together, defeat Donald Trump.”
