Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is taking aim at President Donald Trump after a report about the president making some harsh remarks about late-Sen. John McCain.

The Atlantic published a report on Thursday, which alleged the president called Americans who died in war “losers” and “suckers.” It also suggested Trump said of flags at half-staff after McCain died, “What the f*** are we doing that for? Guy was a f***ing loser.”

The publication also cited a remark Trump said in 2015, “I like people who weren’t captured,” regarding McCain, who was a prisoner of war for over five years.

Schumer then took a moment to offer his thoughts on the report.

“I like people that weren't captured.”

That’s what Donald Trump said about John McCain in 2015.

But I’m 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 the White House is right that this story about him calling war heroes “losers” and “suckers" is false.https://t.co/VczGBJwafu

Schumer then pulled some of Trump’s previous tweets, writing, “Keep your receipts.” The tweet referred to was Trump calling McCain a “loser.”

The Democratic lawmaker also took aim at Trump after the president tweeted following the report’s publication, “I never called John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES.”

See Trump’s tweets below:

I was never a big fan of John McCain, disagreed with him on many things including ridiculous endless wars and the lack of success he had in dealing with the VA and our great Vets, but the lowering of our Nations American Flags, and the first class funeral he was given by our….

….John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES. This is more made up Fake News given by disgusting & jealous failures in a disgraceful attempt to influence the 2020 Election!

However, Schumer responded to that tweet, writing, “Too many lies for too long.”

Trump continued in his defense on Twitter late Thursday as he wrote, “This is more made up Fake News given by disgusting [and] jealous failures in a disgraceful attempt to influence the 2020 Election!”

The president also addressed the report on the way back to Washington, D.C., after a campaign rally, as he told reporters, “I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more,” as IJR reported.
