Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is urging President Donald Trump to put aside his issues he may have with Democrats and stand with them in passing the next coronavirus relief package.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, Schumer responded to a tweet Trump issued claiming the Democrats are moving “slowly.”

“The great people of Pennsylvania want their freedom now, and they are fully aware of what that entails,” Trump wrote.

He added, “The Democrats are moving slowly, all over the USA, for political purposes. They would wait until November 3rd if it were up to them. Don’t play politics. Be safe, move quickly!”

Schumer fired back at Trump, saying if he wants to “get something done” he needs to “join” Democrats in their coronavirus response efforts.

“If you want to get something done, Mr. President, stop attacking reporters, stop ignoring the truth, stop accusing Democrats of not doing anything,” Schumer said.

He continued, “We’re going to have a big bold plan for you, join us, support it.”

Last week, Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) revealed they have big plans for the next relief package, as IJR previously reported.

Schumer called the relief package “Rooseveltian.”

According to Pelosi, some of the things the next bill will include are more testing, tracing, treatments, reopening the government, and sending more money to Americans.

Schumer also claimed during the MSNBC interview that it was Democrats who “forced” Trump to take action in the previous relief bills.

“Mr. President, we forced you to do a large bill in COVID 3 that you didn’t want to do,” Schumer said.

He added, “We forced you and added many provisions for hospitals, for workers, instead of just helping big corporations. We forced you in COVID 3.5 to start helping the smaller businesses and the unbanked.”

Schumer acknowledged the new bill will not solve all of the issues related to the coronavirus pandemic, but it will “make things better in the country.”
