Actor Ryan Gosling reacted to his “Barbie” co-star Margo Robbie and the film’s director Greta Gertwig’s Oscar nomination snubs.

In a statement obtained by The New York Post, Gosling, 43, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the “Barbie” movie, praised Robbie and Gertwig after they were snubbed in the Best Actress and Best Director categories on Tuesday.

“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” Gosling, who played Ken in the movie, said.

He continued, “And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken. But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film.”

Additionally, “The Notebook” star expressed his disappointment regarding Robbie and Gertwig not being recognized for their contribution to the film.

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius,” he said. “To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

Furthermore, the Golden Globe Award winner said, “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”

“Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film,” he concluded. Ferrera nabbed a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

According to NBC News, the 2023 summer film was a smash hit bringing in more than $1 billion at the box office.

“Barbie” won the first-ever Golden Globe Award in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category at the 2024 Golden Globes Award show, per Deadline. Robbie, who was also a producer for the film, accepted the award.

“Thank you so much to the Golden Globes for creating an award that celebrates movie fans,” she said. “This is a movie about ‘Barbie,’ but it’s also a movie about humans. It’s about you.”

Robbie continued, “We made it for you, and we made it with love. Thank you for loving it back.”
