A Republican political activist and lawyer was stabbed to death in his home in New Hampshire over the weekend, according to officials.

Alexander Talcott, 41, was reported to be pronounced dead after being stabbed in the neck, according to a statement from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.

“His unwavering belief in liberty, free markets, and limited government resonated deeply in his role as a lawyer,” William O’Brien, the director for the New Hampshire chapter of the Republican National Lawyers Association, told NBC10.

“Alex was an exceptionally skilled champion for the rule of law and the importance of fair and honest elections,” O’Brien added, describing Talcott. “We will forever honor Alex’s selfless dedication and profound contributions to our shared vision of liberty through legal processes. His legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations within the RNLA and the greater legal community.”

The Attorney General’s office said in the statement that an autopsy had been conducted on Talcott on Sunday.

“New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie V. Duval has determined that the cause of Mr. Talcott’s death was a stab wound to the neck,” the statement said. “The manner of death is homicide.”

Homicide was defined as being “the killing of one person by another,” according to the statement.

Both parties involved in the incident were reportedly identified, and the Attorney General’s office did not identify a threat to the public, according to the statement.

The investigation is ongoing.

IJR reached out to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office for a statement but did not receive a response back by the time of publication.
