A 100-pound Great Dane puppy named Mudge was saved by firefighters from three different departments after falling 50 feet down a well in North Carolina.

According to WKYT, Janine Haldene, Mudge’s owner, said, “We called 911 right away. And they come out, they don’t have the, they have to call the right department that has the right equipment.”

“They had to bring that tripod situation with all the climbing harnesses and everything to get down there,” she went on.

The Cary Fire, Fairview Rural Fire, and Swift Creek Fire Departments responded to the call Saturday and worked for hours to rescue young Mudge.

Haldene noted Mudge, 11 months, was “unscathed” and added, “I just can’t even believe it. It’s quite the drop and it is covered up now, by the way, it’s completely covered up.”

“So, yeah, you know, part of me kind of wonders, yeah, part of me kind of wonders, you know, did she fall to save someone else?”

She stated, “They did all of this for my dog. And she is part of our family, truly, so God bless them.”

“They were very, very organized when they showed up. They had a plan. They knew exactly what to do,” she said.

The Fairview Rural Fire Department posted pictures of the rescue to Facebook, stating, “Our friends at the Cary Fire Department were able to rescue the 100 (lb.) puppy this afternoon around 2 pm.  Mudge is doing well and will take a long puppy nap this evening.”

The Cary Fire Department also posted about their efforts, noting, “Crews worked seamlessly together to rescue the dog using rope rescue techniques.”

“There was a veterinarian that responded to the scene to examine Mudge, and he was found to be unharmed from the incident. Great job by all involved!” the post concluded.
