White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is suggesting President Joe Biden has not visited the southern border because there is reportedly low public interest in the matter.

During an episode of “The Axe Files” podcast, hosted by David Axelrod, Psaki touched on the situation at the border and why the president has not visited.

“What we’ve tried to do in general in thinking about how we use his time, is really think about what the public cares about. The public cares about the pandemic, the economy. We’re often asked, ‘Why doesn’t he go to the border?’ Important issue. We’re focused on it,” Psaki said.

She added, “What percentage of the public is focused on the border? A much smaller percentage than who’s focused on the pandemic and the economy. So that may be maddening, but, you know, that’s what we try to do.”

Listen to Psaki’s interview below:

According to a CNN poll, 41% of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of the situation at the border. Eight in 10 Americans believe the current situation is a “crisis.”

Sixty-five percent of Americans disapprove of how the government is treating migrants crossing the border. Biden tapped Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the charge in tackling the crisis at the border.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday Harris would most likely visit Mexico next month.

“We have to regulate migratory flows and we must address the (root) causes, and this means there must be jobs and hope for the people in southeast of Mexico and Central America,” Lopez Obrador said during a press conference.

Harris said on Monday, “In just a few days, I will meet virtually with the president of Mexico. And in a month from now. I will visit both countries.”
