Priscilla Presley, ex-wife of late singing legend Elvis Presley, defended their romance when he was 24 years old and she was 14.
During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival on Monday for the upcoming biopic “Priscilla,” Priscilla Presley, 78, revealed intimate details about her relationship with the rock ‘n’ roll legend.
“It was very difficult for my parents to understand that Elvis would be so interested in me and why,” she explained.
Priscilla Presley said she believed he was drawn to her because she was “more of a listener.”
“Elvis would pour his heart out to me in every way in Germany. His fears, his hopes, the loss of his mother, which he never, ever got over,” she shared.
Additionally, she recalled being a source of comfort for him and claimed that was their “connection.” Priscilla Presley also addressed the couple’s 10-year age gap.
“Even though I was 14, I was actually a little bit older in life. Not in numbers,” she said, adding, “That was the attraction.”
Furthermore, she clarified there was no physical intimacy between the couple at that time.
“People think, ‘Oh, it was sex.’ Not at all. I never had sex with him,” she said.
She described the “Burning Love” singer as “very kind, very soft, very loving” and noted, “he also respected the fact I was only 14 years old.”
“We were more in line in thought, and that was our relationship,” she added.
On Aug. 16, 1977, Elvis Presley died at the age of 42.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET) in 2005, Priscilla Presley recalled the day he died.
“It was like waking up from a nightmare — hoping to wake up from a nightmare — and saying ‘This is a joke’ and I broke down and I just couldn’t believe it,” she said.
