Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) suggested the notion that President Joe Biden wants former President Donald Trump to be his opponent in the upcoming 2024 presidential election given Biden’s poor poll numbers.

During a segment of “Fox and Friends” on Wednesday morning, Kennedy suggested that both Biden and Trump had a co-dependent relationship with one another, and both wanted to compete against each other for various reasons.

“President Biden wants President Trump as an opponent because given President Biden’s poll numbers, he polls right up there with Bud Light,” Kennedy told the hosts, referencing the low sales and backlash the company has received since decorating a can for transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. “He thinks President Trump is the only person he can beat.”

A recent Reuters/Ipsos Core Political poll from July 12 showed 54% of people disapproved of Biden’s job as president while 40% approve of the job he’s doing. In another poll from Quinnipac University in June, Biden had an approval rating of 42% and a 54% disapproval rating.

Kennedy also suggested that Trump wants to compete against Biden because “he thinks he’ll be the easiest to beat,” he said, citing their “co-dependency” on each other.

Kennedy pointed out that only one of them would “be wrong.”

“I hate to say this,” Kennedy continued. “But, I think it’s a fair observation. I think the Justice Department is going to do pretty much, at the senior levels, whatever they can to make sure that President Trump is the nominee because that’s who President Biden wants.”

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump suggested that he might be indicted again, sharing a letter he had received from Special Counsel Jack Smith telling him that he was a “target” in the “January 6th Grand Jury investigation” and that he had four days in which to report before the Grand Jury.

Trump said this “almost always means an arrest and indictment.”

Smith previously indicted Trump in early June. Trump was hit with 37 federal counts of conspiring to obstruct justice, providing false statements, and for the alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Despite these charges, Trump has insisted he is “an innocent man.”
